What is Prezi’s purpose and usefulness in the classroom

Prezi is an excellent presentation tool that teachers can use in their classrooms.  This replaces the boring one dimensional power point presentation as Prezi link imagery to motion which will hopefully help student to be more interested and retain the information better.

Advantages of Using Prezi

1.    This is not your typical slide-based power point presentation.  Prezi allows you to manipulate content and allows you to have movements to be part of your presentation.  You can zoom in/zoom out and even insert images, songs, audios and videos making your presentation even more alive.

2.    Presentations are non-linear, allowing presenter to choose his/her own paths; more flexibility in presenting ideas.

3.    Prezi is free, no downloading of software required and is web-based which means it can be accessed via internet.

  Disadvantages of Using Prezi

1.   It takes a while to learn how to use the program/learning curve.  So it may take a couple of tries before you become familiar with all the features of the program and use them all when preparing your own prezi.

2.   You need a dependable and fast internet connection when you are making and also presenting your Prezi.

3.   No capability to print copies for audience unlike power point which allow you to make copies of your slides.

4.   Some of the features of the program are not free such as working offline.

5.   Zooming function can cause dizziness to audiences especially when used excessively.

Step-by-step" guide on how to use Prezi

• Open a free account on Prezi website.
• Start by clicking on the “Create a new prezi” button.
• Choose a template from prezi’s collection of template.
• After choosing your template, you can begin typing your text on your presentation. 
• You may also insert images, videos from you tube, background music, and even voice over by clicking the “insert button” in the middle of the prezi frame.
• You may customize also the background and theme of your presentation by clicking the “customize button” next to the insert button in the middle of the prezi frame.
• You may also change the order of your frames by switching the frames on the left side corner or use the edit path to change the path of your frame.
• Then view your presentation by clicking the present button at the right corner of the prezi frame.
